They overthrew an autocrat by putting their lives on the line in Kyiv's main
square. But that was only the first battle of Ukraine's Maidan generation.
Now they fight oligarchs and corrupt politicians in the capital and
pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

>From the first day of the protests, a collective of voluntary filmmakers
called Babylon'13 also risked everything to capture history in the making.
With emotions still smoldering after the massacre of 100 protestors,
Director Andrew Tkach talked to the revolution's medics, musicians and foot
soldiers. No one knew then that their victory would be so short lived.
Maidan activists would soon face imprisonment and torture by separatists in
Donetsk and a full-fledged Russian invasion if they joined the military
fight in eastern Ukraine. That's where the filmmakers go along with a former
prisoner of the separatists, who revisits the same basement cell where he
was beaten and locked up for 70 days.

The film also captures the terrible plight of civilians caught in a war
where "bus stops have become battlegrounds," and handicapped children can't
escape the often "indiscriminate shelling." The front-line footage and
searing testimonials are woven together to tell an unforgettable story.

Generation Maidan was an official selection of Geneva's Human Rights Film
Festival (FIFDH.ch) in March, 2015.

Ukrainian Avant-Garde of the 1910s and 1920s

125 original art works for the theater by 13 artists, many who were exiled

political beliefs. The exhibition comprises 142 objects on loan from the

Kyiv, including art works on paper of costume, set, and makeup design,

productions of the Berezil Theater, Vadym Meller; and Anatol Petrytsky,
whose singularly rich compositions reflected Ukraine's own popular culture,
traditions, and customs.

 <http://www.ukrainianmuseum.org/ex_150509petrykivka.html> Petrykivka: The
Soul of Ukraine

Ukraine's UNESCO Treasure

Through end August, 2015

Petrykivka: The Soul of Ukraine is an exhibition of unique Ukrainian folk
art organized by The Ukrainian Museum and the art collectors Yuri Mischenko
and Natalie Pawlenko, whose private collection reflects a variety of
Petrykivka styles. The exhibition includes 35 paintings by 17 artists,
spanning four generations; each of the works is being shown for the first
time in the United States.

Petrykivka art originated from an ancient decorative painting tradition in
central Ukraine, where it began as painting on interior and exterior adobe
whitewashed walls, ceiling beams, and hearths, as well as decorative
painting on furniture, boxes, and wooden kitchenware. Due to the
perishability of the medium and the turbulent history of Ukraine, only a few
examples of folk decorative painting from central Ukraine predating the 19th
century are preserved in Ukrainian museums.
